Carol Law Conklin had an art show Saturday afternoon at the Cambridge Artisan’s Market, she shows and sells her mystical batiks – horses, nature, myths – there. Carol is a friend of ours, she will be doing a batik-making demonstration at the June and October Open Houses and will also conducting a workshop at the Bedlam Farm Creativity Conference, to be held at Pompanuck Farm and retreat on October 6 and 7th. (A small number of places at the conference will be open to the public this year, we are limiting the attendees to no more than 20-25 people, for classes on writing, blogging, art and watercolor, Tai Chi and body movement, the art of baking, fiber art and intuition fiber work, poetry and photography.)
The fee is $100, interested people can contact Susan Alford Crosby on Facebook.
(Rachel Barlow, the red-hot watercolor artist from Vermont, will also be teaching and showing her sketch work at the conference.)
We want the classes to be small, intimate, with lots of one-on-one feedback. The fee does not include food or lodging. There will be visits to the farm for attendees.
If you aren’t on Facebook, you can contact me at [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with Susan.
Carol’s batik work is both mystical and beautiful. The process of batik is old and complex, it takes months to produce some of these amazing works. Carol is a retired dairy farmer, her work is greatly influenced by horses and farm animals, and it was exciting to see her beautiful work on display there.
She works hard and continuously, she is committed to a creative life, the life of the artist, and her work reflects a deep sense of spirituality, especially regarding animals. One of her very beautiful pieces hangs over our fireplace. She will also be selling her work at the Open Houses in June and October. The June Open House will be a celebration of creativity and art, Maria’s own work, our lives on Bedlam Farm, and the art of rural life.
