Trees have opened up a new chapter for me, for my connection to the natural world, for my photography. I am coming to see them anew, to appreciate them and their complexity and individuality. I am coming to understand that they are connected to one another, they are aware of one another, they support one another.
Walking in the woods at Pompanuck Farm today, I stopped and looked up and I could see it, the space the give each other, the way their upper branches stop and make room for the sunlight to reach one another, the way they seem to be reaching out to one another. A community, for sure, I see it now. They share their resources, biologists say they feed one another and help sick trees heal, they connect above ground, and then again, in their roots below ground. I think I had to start looking up to see it.
