Chloe has been with us for more than six months now, she is a major presence on our farm. She is the undisputed queen of the pasture, the donkeys and the sheep follow her everywhere, and defer to her ever wish and command. She is a Haflinger-Welsh pony, a work horse, she is older, stocky as those ponies are. Her coat is lustrous and shiny, and she soaks up all the attention she gets here.
She gets exercise every day, and is often tearing back and forth between our pastures. When she hears me or Maria she gives off a movie-quality neigh. She is independent, affectionate, and strong-willed. She and Maria work together almost every day, and are deeply attached to one another. I get a kiss every morning, but she is Maria’s pony. We got Chloe from Ken and Eli-Anita Norman, she had been on their farm for a few years, living with other horses and donkeys.
A large animal vet, a friend, stopped by to see her a week or so ago and said she looked great, fit and strong and in good coat. We are happy to have her. I don’t know how much riding Maria and Chloe will be doing, Maria doesn’t seem all that into the riding to me, she loves working with Chloe on other things, but we’ll see.
From the first, Chloe fit in here, as if she had been her for years. I think the carriage horses led us to getting a horse, I’m grateful to them and thinking of them.
