There is an old farmhouse down the road from us, it was built around 1800 and had been unoccupied for years, the rear of the house was exposed. It has just been sold and we assumed the old farmhouse was going to be torn down. To our surprise and delight the new owners have stripped the old rotting wood off, are repairing the tattered roof (in bitter cold) ad are rebuilding the beautiful, classic and historic old house.
In rural life, we have lost so much – the old barns are falling down, the old farmhouses are not what new home buyers want. The politicians and economists have forgotten what people are for, and find rural America to be inefficient in the new global economy. They have abandoned the rural populations, we are losing much of our heritage.
So it is a miracle to see the new owners go to the great trouble and expense of rebuilding this house from the ground up and the inside out. I will be a pleasure to photograph it as they move along.
