Later tonight, the first winter storm, a milder version of the big storm that has rocked the South and Midwest. We are expecting 2 to 5 inches by morning and a nasty ice storm throughout the morning. We are holed up with our work, each other and our animals. Wednesday evening a New Year’s dinner with friends.
This afternoon – you can smell the storm coming – I went for a walk in the forest with our friend Cathy Stewart, an independent political organizer and photographer from New York City, we met while supporting the New York Carriage Horses. She and her husband and some friends have bought a house in nearby Shushan, we are happy to have them in our community, they will be her and in New York, back and forth. I imagine you will be hearing about them soon enough.
They are already important to us. Cathy and I trekked through the woods – cold today – and took some neat photos, it is great joy watching the dogs tear back and forth on the path. I think we will all be running in the snow here in the morning, I hope some good first photographs of the winter pasture, a way I have of finding beauty in the colorless world of the winter.
