Diary, December 9, 2015: Flo And Fate, Yarn And Gifts

by Jon Katz
Diary
Bedlam Farm Diary:

Flo decided to stop terrorizing Fate today, she let her come and nuzzle with Minnie (Minnie is everybody’s pal) and didn’t hiss or swat or chase her away. Fate is terrified of Flo. The two cats love the sun in the kindling boxes and are in there most of the morning. Fate usually gives the box a wide berth, today, there was a bit of a jam, Fate and Flo touched noses.

Yarn

At ll:30 this morning, Maria will begin selling yard from the Bedlam Farm sheep on her website fullmoonfiberart. She has 74 skeins, each selling at $24 apiece plus shipping.

Holidays

Are on everybody’s mind, shopping, preparing to cook, preparing to deal with family. So many look forward to it, so many don’t. I have given Maria all of her Christmas gifts but one, that one hasn’t come yet.

Settling In With Chickens

Our chicken life has settled down. We have four now, we found the brown hen being broody in the barn, sitting on about 21 eggs. We tossed them all over the fence into the pasture. Fate immediately sniffed them out and started eating the shells. Nothing escapes her attention. The broody hen, the brown one, seemed to forget the whole thing this morning and went about her business. The new hen, the Red hen, is still a bit shy, but settling in. She didn’t hide in the barn last night, she hopped right into the roost.

Book

I turned my book into my new publisher a month ago, have heard nothing yet. I feel good about it, but you never know, and I am perpetually surprised by editors.
