The artist in Ed Gulley has always been there, of course, but he had something of a coming out at the Open House. Ed is a hard-working, animal loving dairy farmer who runs Bejosh Farm in White Creek, N.Y., with his wonderful wife Carol at his side. They work hand in hand all day every day.
In his spare time, Ed rescues stray cats, raccoons, injured hawks and any other creature in need he comes across. He sold several of his eclectic junk art sculptures and garden pieces at the Open House. He and Carol are our friends and he gave a neat talk about how he sees the things other people discard and imagines them as art, and makes them for other people to see and enjoy
A pure artist, it is as natural a role for him as milking a cow. He is an artist as much as a farmer, and I think he is beginning to see that. Ed is a passionate defender of family farms and a protector of animals. He is a pretty good friend to humans too, and i am pushing to start his own blog and maybe even join the Fabulous Old Men’s Club. I think he will definitely do the former. Annie the turtle, made out of tractor and engine parts, is gracing my study now, next to my Madonna statue.
