Life is curious in the ways it takes people from us and brings us together. Doug Anderson is a well known much decorated poet, he came to the Open House to join the other poets and to read from his new book Horse Medicine. Doug and I have met at Blue Star Equiculture and were both close friends of Paul Moshimer, who died a few weeks ago. We have drawn closer another since Paul’s death, both in an effort to understand it and to help each other heal from it.
Doug is a former combat medic in Vietnam, his work and life have been informed by that awful experience. His poems are alternatively wise, funny, jarring and dark. So is he. We were happy to have him as a guest at the farm this weekend, his work and soul are so beautiful.
