Shelly is a fixture of our small town, a sweet-animal lover who loved her mother and brings her along with her on every Mother’s Day, even though she died many years ago. Her mom’s ashes are in a metal container, on Mother’s Day, Shelley says, she decided she should take her Mother out and so she goes to the Round House Cafe with her mom in a bag, reads her New York Times and has breakfast and coffee.
Scott and Lisa Carrino both came out to say good morning to Shelley’s mom, everyone in the cafe thought this was the most creative Mother’s day celebration imaginable. Shelley says if she can find one more person to play bridge, she would start a game with her mother, who loved bridge.
There are many reasons for loving my town, one of them for me is the celebration of individuality and the spirit of the individual, something vanishing in our culture of fear, judgement and liability. Shelly said she isn’t online so couldn’t see this photo, I will get a copy to her. She said she thinks her Mom should get out at least oneĀ day a year, and this is the right day.
