I admire Nina Galicheva and her work and ethical spirit very much. She is a good friend. She came to America from Russia and came to New York City, where she has struggled with employment uncertainty and the great cost of things there. She is a photographer at the core, and was drawn to the story of the New York Carriage Horses. She was unemployed for seven month and faithfully recorded the horses and their work, and the drivers.
She also works as a designer.
Her chronicle of this painful and unnecessary controversy is powerful and may be one of the best records of it. She is ferocious and fearless in her photography, she works hard and will jump into the street and run in front of horses to get her photos. She met us at Blue-Star Equiculture. She is one of those people well worth friending and liking on Facebook. She has been a great angel for the carriage horses and their drivers, one of the amazing collection of creatives – writers, poets, artists – who have rallied in support of the carriage horses and the people who work with them as they face the threat of being banned.
She has a wonderful sense of humor, great spirit, and a great curiosity, I think her photography is exceptional and I am proud to know her as a friend.
