The artists and photographers call it “limpid” light, it is clear and transparent, as is water, crystal, or air. It is one of the gifts of bitter cold, in the morning, when the sun comes up it pellucid, completely calm and quite clear. There is no air light, it rarely comes in warm and humid weather, but it loves cold and dry air.
It is very cold here today, we could not finish the barn chores and Red, the hardiest of animals, hops up and down the minute he gets outside, so I am keeping him in until it warms up. As a photographer, I am grateful for the limpid light, it touches the earth in a very particular way and makes shadows that are light and graceful.
