When Dr. Karen Thompson was talking to me about taking Red, she sent me a video of him working and I heard her give him the command “stand,” which meant stop and be still and wait for commands or signals. Border collies rush around when working, it is a good command, and to me, one of the most beautiful. It is pronounced “staaaahnd!”, long emphasis on the a’s. I used it this morning to keep Red away from the feeder while the donkeys and sheep were crowding around Maria, we didn’t need any more movement at the time.
