Late in the day, photographer’s light, the late sun falls on the old chicken coop from the first Bedlam Farm, now turned into my favorite bookcase, one that holds all of the books that have inspired me, given me so many ideas, so much grounding. Saint Augustine, Hannah Arendt, Wendell Berry, Dorothy Burlingham. Like most of you, I live on the borderline of now and then, my computer fills my room, old and worn books surround it, I like both cultures, I live easily in each, one compliments the other.
I have just published an e-book, yet I cannot imagine a life without books in paper. I see that I do not have to choose between one and the other, and every afternoon, the afternoon light makes both a sacrament, sacred spaces for my Windowsill Gallery. Will I one day line someone’s bookshelf, to turn to for reference or inspiration. I don’t know, I will never know, but it is a sweet thought.
