My friend Rod Wilson, an artist and sculptor who works with wood and I were talking the other night and I said I was frustrated about how to photographically capture the beauty of a tree, I said I just didn’t know how to catch it and he said have you just looked at the outside of one, and so this morning I went out to our beautiful old lichen-covered birch, a tree as old as our farmhouse and I just saw what he was talking about, I saw the beauty and character that was right in front of me every day of my life but that I just could not see.

I appreciate seeing the world anew, I have the opportunity to do it every day, and capture it with my eye and my camera. There is is, all the time, beauty every where and we are so distracted by fear and greed and anger that I could not see it. Open up.
