When Jack Metzger (Outback Jack) told me had gotten his hands on a beautiful old quilt from the 1800’s I doubted it would be something Maria would be interested in. She doesn’t do the formal elaborately stitched quilts that are the traditional form, she turns fabric into art in a different way. But when I saw the quilt, I knew she would love, even though it was falling apart I could see how beautiful the different elements were, it was like something she might make.
When I saw her light up and touch the fabric and say she can’t wait to use it, I knew it was a good thing. It was pretty cheap, too. Jack has two more, I’m going to get those as well. Maria hung it up and took it apart this afternoon, I wanted to capture it before it made it’s way out into the world in many different forms.
