Some of the storefronts of Hoosick Falls – this one is the Health Mart downtown – are quite brave, they do the best they can. The buildings and beautiful old homes of Hoosick Falls speak of a different time, a bustling downtown with diners and department stores, garment shops and boutiques. The old homes are often quite grand.
This is the second in my series of photos, “The Storefronts Of Hoosick Falls,” a struggling mill and factory down to the South of me, a beautiful, rich and evocative place. Most of the storefronts are empty now.
The storefronts tell an important story about America, a country that perhaps had too much space and too much money, it leaves so many things behind, abandons so many others. The storefronts bear witness to a time, that was, perhaps they are calling us to a new time, another time to come. They are still there, waiting for us to notice them.
