One of my great passions as a photographer is taking photos of the real farms of real people. Real farms are not like the onesĀ you see in galleries and calendars, or driving through many towns in Vermont. Real farms are stinky, smelly, crowded with junk, pallets, fading barn wood, boxes, rotting old hay, drums filled with mysterious liquids, silos and outbuildings. Nobody wants to buy photographs of real farms or put them on their wall, but they are quite beautiful if you get used to them, maybe because they are the most honest buildings in the world.
