Red’s role in my life continues to grow in ways that only Karen Thompson (the generous angel who gave him to me) might have foreseen. He is a wonderful herding dog, he is a wonderful therapy dog, he is a wonderful dog. I have not yet found the thing that Red cannot do or the place he cannot go.
He was invited to appear with me in Connecticut and I didn’t give it a thought. We drove to the hotel and conference center, he walked easily on a path near the hotel, came into the lobby, was mobbed by people, rode in elevators, navigated corridors thronged with people, was hugged, rubbed, squeezed by dozens of strangers, greeted the people in my talk, dozed while I spoke, rode silently in the car all the way home.
This morning I realized I was walking through the hotel, riding elevators, walking through lobbies and I never thought to put a leash on him. He stayed right with me all the way.
There is nothing this dog will not do when asked that I have yet found. His great heart touches people everywhere, they have a great need to hold and touch him, he is very generous in accommodating them. Red’s soul just grows and grows, I am so lucky to have him, he amazes me every single day.
