Maria and I went to Jay’s Art Supplies in Bennington, Vt., we needed to get mats cut for the photos that will be shown and sold in the George Forss-Jon Katz “Looking At Our World” exhibit, going up at the Round House Cafe in Cambridge, N.Y., next Sunday or Monday. There will be a reception at the cafe at 7 p.m., February 20, George and I will both be there. Maria is curating the show, it feels good and warm and exciting, not like so many art shows I’ve been to where everybody looks like they’re having an enema.
At the reception, we’re going to show some video of profiles of George done by the BBC, Time Magazine, Entertainment Tonight and the Today Show. I’ll be talking about my photography as well. The matting of the photos will cost nearly $500, the printing – done with thick digital archival fiber paper – cost several hundred dollars (George did it at cost) and the frames are the only things we got relatively inexpensively, they cost about $200, they were on sale, that was a good price.
Still, art shows are expensive, so are photo shows, we will probably be charging close to $200 for each framed and matted photo, I can’t charge art show prices, it makes me uncomfortable, and to charge any loss would mean losing money. George’s prices will range from $200 to $500. People have been asking me how they can purchase these photos, the only way the show photos can be bought is through Scott or Lisa Carrino at the Round House Cafe (518 677-2233), they will be on sale as of next Monday. I’ll put up some photos as the show goes up. They will also be sold at the reception, obviously, and any photos that are not sold will be put up online or at our Open Houses this year at the farm.
Jay’s is a neat and funky art place, it goes on for blocks, I’m happy we found Jay, he will help me handle the matting and framing of photos down the road, if we sell more. Maria, who has an F.M.A. in arts, has handled shows, frames, mats. Very lucky to have her there, she and Jay forgot I was there, Jay knew what he was doing, he talked to Maria and largely ignored me. He’s a very nice man.
