Red returns to the vet today at noon, I’ve scheduled a meeting, exam and talk with Dr. Suzanne Fariello to try and figure out his sudden weight gain and drinking issues. Diabetes, Cushing’s Disease, Kidney problems and thyroid troubles were all ruled out during the first exam last week, of course, and I can write off the gulping to border collie strangeness but a seven pound weight gain in a dog Red’s size is troublesome to me. Red has plenty of energy for work, his appetite is good, he is alert and seems at ease, though I learned with Rose and Izzy that this doesn’t always mean much.
I’m still learning towards some behavioral issues, Red was perhaps more affected by the extreme cold weather than I thought. Izzy gained weight suddenly and it turned out he had cancer so perhaps that has me more concerned that I might otherwise be, but Red shows no other signs of discomfort, loss of appetite, disorientation that Izzy showed.
So I’m being prudent. I’m not into dog dramas, the overwhelming odds are something like him getting a bit older and perhaps needs a different Fromm Food, they have many excellent choices. Dr. Fariello is reasonable and thorough, we’ll come up with a plan.
