The winter pasture emerges slowly, and in stages. The brown grass still shows through the light snow, the red barns become more pronounced as the winter progresses, the light fades early, and then suddenly disappears below the horizon. The sky changes, it is less generous. The deep winter is not here yet, is some weeks away, and then the world takes on a different hue.
