Donkey Trails. The Paths We Take

The Paths We Take

To me, donkeys are the most spiritual of all the animal I have known, they have been with us since ancient times, tied up in our lives, work and spirituality. They are far more intuitive than most dogs, ferociously independent and individualistic, smarter than almost any animal I know. I love watching their trails, the paths they take, they make paths wherever they are, wherever they go, and they adhere closely and faithfully to them. Whenever there is snow or rain or mud, a donkey path emerges, a trail to get them where they want to go and back. Behaviorists believe the donkey trails are for safety, to guide them back home in storms and darkness, safe trails that form the boundaries of our lives.

I love to watch the donkey trails, see where they begin and end, our small farm is pock-marked with them. Donkeys are spirit animals, guides and magical helpers.
