Big sheep news on the farm today, our friend Darryl Kuehne, a farmer from Vermont, is coming over with a breeding Ram, Ted, a Cheviot and a pregnant ewe, a Karakul wool breed, she could give birth at any time. We are excited, Maria will have a blast lambing, I sort of miss it myself, and this will be interesting to see how Red deals with a new Ram. We will keep Ted through two breeding cycles and we should have lambs in April or May. It will also be interesting to see how Zelda takes to being bred…Poor Ted, coming to a farm with Zelda and Red.
A friend of mine told me people should not breed or get animals that might outlive them, I nodded politely and dismissed that advice, I am not ready to leave life behind because I will be leaving it one day. Donkeys live to be 40 or 50 years old, we will make sure they have good homes to go to. Rebirth and redemption, lambing is an affirmation of life, of our lives, of Maria’s work, it is an exciting thing to bring life to a farm. Photos and news to follow, the crew is arriving late this afternoon.
