On a cold morning – it was in the 30’s this morning – there is a window between night and day, darkness and light, this is the time when the mist comes off the pastures, and you can see the breath of donkeys and sheep, it is a grounding time. For me, animals are about grounding, connecting to the natural world, pausing to build a boundary between me and the Anxious World at the beginning of the day. I do not use animals as a reason to hate people, I use animals to show me how to love people and accept them. As a photographer, I know that this precious time, this transitional time only lasts a few minutes, as the sun rises and warms the ground, the mist will disappear, so will the donkey’s breath.
But it is a mystical moment for me, a magical moment and it is a privilege when I can capture it. I am ready to enter the Anxious World and ground myself inside of it. It challenges my humanity every day. It helps me to evolve as a spiritual human being.
