For the first time in a year, Zelda seems to be open to the idea of being scratched. She is usually too vigilant, too busy glowering at Red. Saturday the farrier came and we closed the gates in the Pole Barn and when we came out later, Zelda had nosed open the gates and led the sheep in to be with the donkeys. She is fairly incorrigible for a sheep, she is the Willie Sutton of sheep. But Maria has a wonderful way with animals, she is making some inroads. Even Zelda likes to have her butt scratched, keeping an eye on Red the entire time.
