I have never really liked Roses, they seemed stodgy and British to me. but I love the creative challenging of trying to turn something you don’t love into some kind of art, and so I studied this little Rose – we rescued a raggedy dying bush from a nursery and brought it home and under Maria’s loving care, it is happy – and I waited for the sun to brush against it and watched the shadows, and I like this Rose, it doesn’t seem solid and clunky like the other Roses, it has some grace and romance to it, like the sexy Dahlia’s I love.
