Liz has been shearing sheep with Jim since she was eight. She is a bank teller during the week, a shearer in the Spring and Fall, when sheep are shorn. They had visited several farms before coming to see us, and it is apparent they work well together. Jim is a Buddhist and he wears meditation beads and speaks and chants softly to the sheep while he works. They are impressive. In this position, sheep are immobolized. I sit them up on their hindquarters when Maria needs to give them a shot or medicine, and they stay still. Jim calms them further by talking to them, and by his steady and peaceful handling of them.
