We had a spectacular morning at Bedlam Farm.
– We staged a chicken raid worthy of the Navy Seals at the old farm, snatching the chickens off their roost in the dark and transporting them in a dog crate to the new and wondrous coop.
– Rocky and the donkeys spent the night together out in the pasture, and were grazing within a few yards of one another. Simon won’t let Rocky too close, but has stopped attacking him. Simon and I slugged it out a few times, he is getting the idea. In the morning, we walked Rocky into his stall so he gets his share of grain and hay.
– The barn cats have settled in well. Mother is out hunting, Minnie hanging around the barn as usual. They’ve found a nice spot in the hay to curl up in, we see.
– The sheep are moving about freely, hanging out with Rocky mostly. Rocky seems to want company, to be near the other animals, even the stand-offish donkeys. It feels like a peaceable kingdom taking shape.
– Maria is moving into her new studio today, and hopes to be at work making potholders this afternoon.
– Ben is replacing the rotten sills on the side of the house.
– Todd Mason is her to pup up some wooden panels to help us feed Rocky and contain the sheep and donkeys for veterinary visits and shearing (shearer coming Saturday).
We were proud of ourselves this morning. It has been challenging and intense, but we are figuring things out. It is coming together. We are making good decisions and carrying them out well. I am proud of us. Come and see.
