We were getting ready to plant three new maple trees in front of the New Bedlam farmhouse and we both saw some rock peeking out from the weeds and grass. It was almost completely covered. To our delighted surprise, we found a beautiful slate walkway buried in the front of the house. We couldn’t leave it there a minute longer, and Maria started digging. I helped when I could, but my legs wouldn’t let me do that kind of digging. So I hosed the walkway down and swept and helped pull the weeds and sod out when I could.
It took a few hours but it was worth it, although I can hardly believe Maria’s strength and focus. We love this walkway, it changes the whole character of the front of the farmhouse. So did the three trees we had planted her. It is a joy to bring this wonderful place back to life.
