Red just watches the sick old sheep. It is quiet in the barn, and she stares back at him, the two of them in a timeless kind of conversation I can’t know or understand. He has never done this with a sheep before that I have seen, and he doesn’t move or rattle her in any way. I love the mystery of animals, the part we will never comprehend, we will never know. I know this is powerful to see, but I do not know what is really happening. As much as we love them, parts of them are out of our reach.
