Photographer George Forss spent his 71st birthday in the intensive care unit at Glens Falls Hospital, in the company of his long-time friend and companion the artist Donna Wynbrandt and his friends. Not for me to disclose his illness, but it is treatable and he expects to be released from the hospital in a couple of days. He is much better than he was yesterday, when he was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Donna brought him a muffin with a candle. I brought him a copy of Robert Frank’s classic photography collection, “The Americans.”
George accepted his health issues as he accepts everything else in life, with graciousness, humor and strength. He and Donna have a powerful and loving relationship and I was drawn again and again to the way they held hands. When George gets home, he is heading to Bedlam Farm to do a panoramic stitching of my view, a specialty of his.
