Fran’s Very Long Day

Touched, Touched

I think it is the voicelessness of animals that challenges us. Rocky connects with people in a way chickens do not. Simon shows a range of emotions that are beyond the surface of chickens. Rose’s illness and death affected me in a way that Fran’s troubles do not, yet there is an identification, a sense of emotion. I will never love a chicken like I love Lenore, but we humans are suckers for life, and we will look for it wherever we can find it. In animals, there is much of it to find. There is something about her simple moving forward with her life, hobbling to food, trying to get her leg and her wing working. It touches me, and I am drawn to trying to capture it in photos.
