I saw my new doctor today, a naturopath, for continued treatment of the Carbon Monoxide Poisoning I experienced a couple of weeks ago. We talked for more than an hour about my health and my life – he also loves dogs and photography – and we went through some tests, and went over some things for me to do, and as I got up to leave he shook my hand and congratulated me on my focus and willingness to take care of myself. You are vital, very vital, he said, and that is a seminal definition of health.
I was deeply touched by that. Changing my notions of health care was difficult and frightening but I couldn’t feel better about it than I do. More than once in the past weeks I wanted to go to an emergency room or call a conventional medical practice. I did not, and am grateful for that. Being vital is one of the most important things for me to be. And one of the best things a doctor has ever said to me.
