I am drawn to the colorful photos of light and images – sunrise, flowers. I am equally drawn to the more stark black and white images that dot the rural landscape everywhere, ghosts to an increasingly embattled and forgotten culture. As the politicians fight in Washington, no one seems to be fighting for the life draining out these non-suburban, non-urban areas, places we call rural, once considered the heart of the country, but now living on the margins of a Wal-Mart world in a Corporate Nation. I love these photos, and they are not sad to me, but very powerful.
