The Argyle Volunteers are one of the most respected volunteer fire companies around. They embody, to me, the great character and community of rural life, both disappearing under the weight of the Corporate Nation and the urban/industrial economic system that economists hail but which is destroying work and rural life all across America. You don’t want to be around when they wake up to it. The Argyle Volunteers embody this spirit to me, and you can see it in their faces.
