I was looking for barn cat photos when I came across these, taken shortly after Simon came to the farm, and I just gasped. I don’t know why I want to put them up, but I do. I wanted to share them. Not in anger, I hope, but in witness. I will think of these animals off in their neglected lives differently, from now on, and I will think of mercy and compassion differently also. I don’t put them up to upset people, or to provoke anger or condemnation. I just feel they ought to be seen. Simon has reached into my heart and opened it up in a different way, and I thank Jessica Barrett, the animal control officer who brought Simon to me, for that.
His eyes bear witness more than anything. And what I hear him saying is, remember me. Remember me.
Open up, open up. And allow myself to feel things.
