I seek a spiritual life.
For me that means a number of constantly evolving things:
– A spiritual life means hard work, every day.
– A spiritual life takes the strength to separate from things that
are not healthy, not nourishing, not meaningful.
– A spiritual life is not compatible with acceptance of fear.
– It requires leaps of faith, every day, perhaps every hour.
– And the fusing of body soul, for they are one and the same,
and one cannot be healthy and spiritual without the other.
– A spiritual life can be lonely. It is not something many people seek.
– It cannot live with the acceptance of anger and conflict as a means to understand the world.
– It is nourished by appreciation for the light, images and colors of the world.
– It needs a connection to the natural world, to our long and close history
with animals.
– It requires self-awareness and a willingness to face the sometimes awful truths
about ourselves, as well as our gifts and aspirations.
– It asks us to define ourselves: our age, our health, our identities,
and not subsume our stories and desires in the narrow expectations and fearful
ways of the world.
That’s just me. Everybody has to make their own list, and mine changes almost day.

helpful to me. Mary married Maria and me and that set us on a wondrous path.
