Psssst. You didn’t hear it from me, as I’m not supposed to be touting this, but what the hell, she’s off in Glens Falls, today. Maria’s excellent new quilt show, “Cut It Up” opens this coming Monday in the gallery of the Crandall Public Libary, Glens Falls, N.Y. There will be a reception, on February 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. Maria’s quilts are as quirky, inventive and individualistic as she is and as her potholders are, and I love the notion of discard fabrics reinvented as beautiful art.  You can view her quilts and some of her potholders – they are still selling very well – on her website.

Maria does not ever tout herself, so somebody has to do it.

One of the  joys of my life has been watching Maria evolve as an artist, turning the Studio Barn into a little hive of creativity, machines humming and fabric, batting and old clothes pouring in and out.

And the public is invited to the reception. There is no charge. I might be there myself.
