Shot with a 16-35 mm Canon lens. ISO 100, ap f/.1, shutter speed 1/250. This photo was altered in Aperture, to enhance the natural light that was actually coming from the sun in late afternoon through a cloudy sky. It sort of backlit the barn and fence to give a beautiful, eerie nightime feel.
I saw “Sherlock Holmes” last night with Robert Downey and Jude Law. As an Arthur Conan Doyle lover, I was eagerly awaiting the movie, and it was great, foolish fun. Lots of martial arts, explosions, a completely incomprehensible plot that would have sent Holmes reeling for his dope. Owed a lot to Spielberg and the Indiana Jones movies.
I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it, but I wonder if they really had to so completely destroy the cerebral nature of Holmesian logic in favor of the mass marketing and deafening crashes that seem to be essential to any kind of holiday film. Wish they could have found a bit of a better balance. No question, though, that it was fun, and teenage boys will especially love it.
December 26, 2009 – Cloudy, cool. The e-mail sales pitches resumed today. Still can buy an Ipod, Amazon is still hawking books, Kindle’s, all kinds of post-Christmas sales. Monday, the news cycles will crank up again, and there is a lot of air time to fill with bad news and alarms. Stay grounded.
