Izzy has been named the new Marketing Director of the Potholder Initiative. Maria got 66 orders yesterday
after Frieda posed with one. I’m bringing out the heavy guns. Nobody can media whore like Izzy.
October 4, 2009 – Cloudly, rainy. Went to a beautiful violin concert in Dorset Vermont last night. Maria and her mother took me out to dinner to celebrate Random House’s approval of my second novel, a sequel to “Rose In A Storm.”
I love how one thing leads to another. I used to take photos of a daily egg, and then the chickens left to live down the road. Then I started taking photos of the Daily Potholder. Then I started taking photos of the Daily Potholder with the dogs, first Frieda, now Izzy, Lenore and Rose next.
Lots of things come together. I love Maria and her potholders – a testament to the resourcefulness of creative people in complex times. Art that is both inexpensive and useful, shown on her website. Can’t beat it for $9 bucks, and when you add the dogs, it seems to have even more energy and sense of time and place.
Maria is getting nervous about all the orders she’s getting. I think it’s great.
Today I am driving Maria’s mother home (Maria is working) and this afternoon, going to say goodbye to Margaret and Kay at the Battenkill Bookshop on Main Street in Cambridge, N.Y. I am working to finish the first draft of “The Dogs of Bedlam Farm,” my first children’s book.
