Susan Smith of Red Fox Books introduces Izzy and I
August 26, 2009 – Izzy and I spoke at the Crandall Public Library in Glens Falls tonight, to another great crowd with lots of questions. Mostly we talked about how dogs and other animals think, and how easy it is for us to put our words and thoughts into their heads.
I said I thought Americans were needy people, and were seeking unconditional love from animals in a society which is tense in some ways, changing, technologically driven, disconnected, and where work was insecure and often simply money driven. As we have become disenchanted with politics, technology and religion and disconnected from the natural world, we are struggling find connection and affection. The soul of dogs and other animals may come from providing some of that. There were questions about why I was selling the farm, my new novel, “Rose In A Storm,” and the book “Soul Of A Dog,” and the stories I told about chickens, barn cats, goats and dogs.
People really want to talk about this subject, I see, and this is rewarding.
