The discussions so far on the book tour have been fascinating, robust. Everyone – everyone – insists that their dogs and cats have souls, no doubt about it. Interesting to me that so complex and charged a question would seem to clear to everyone, when it is gray to me. I don’t know whether dogs have souls or not, and can’t say it’s all that important to me. It surely isn’t important to them.
I find the need for us to give souls to our dogs and cats the most interesting part of this new relationship between humans and animals. Americans are attaching profoundly to animals, something that is accelerating. Timely book, I see.
