July 21, 2009 – August 1 is the fourth anniversary of the dog  Devon, also known as Orson, put down after he bit three people. He (and me) is also the subject of the HBO movie “A Dog Year,”
due out Sept. 3, and which I just saw for the first time this morning.
  If you want your mind blown, look at a movie of your life, played by a start like Jeff Bridges. I think they knew me and my life better than I did. It’s a wonderful movie and the message is also wonderful: the problem isn’t usually the dog, it’s us. I found myself in tears several times, and I haven’t cried in awhile, alas. I will be taking a long walk this afternoon with the dogs.
