Smile. The Hound of Love is working her magic

by Jon Katz

Lenore is my photographer’s assistant. She follows me on the path and studies my techniques.
I called B&H Photo in New York and asked about buying a landscape lens. The salesmen, studying my sales record, refused to sell it to me. You don’t need it, he said. He was right. I love that place.

July 14, 2009 – Cool, cloudy. Tomorrow is Twitter Day. I begin tweeting. I transmit my novel to New York. I begin plotting the next one. I will soon be editing my children’s books. I have decided not to sell more photos of the dogs (sorry, Diana) and other animals right now, and stick to the art.
Thursday, I head for Provincetown for a couple of days. Hope to eat fried clams, walk the dunes, visit Mary Oliver’s Blackwater Pond, walk up and down the streets. No dogs. I love the artist shacks where Hopper and O’Neill worked, in the days when artists could afford to hole up in shacks. Be back later in the weekend.
I will be posting excerpts from my novel, “Rose In A Storm,” here and on Bedlam Farm on Facebook. The book is scheduled for publication next June. The HBO movie “A Dog Year” will be aired on the network September 3.
I will use Twitter differently. I will post a thought, comment, or report daily. This will not affect the blog. We think we have found a way around the problem of subscribing. There are so many subscribers my mail program stopped accepting them. The programmers are working on it.
My next novel, also featuring a dog named Rose, will be set in the Adirondacks. I’m going to spend a month or so there this winter with a vet who left NYC and moved to the Adirondacks to be closer to wildlife. More on the plot later.
