July 2, 2009 – A farmer told me when I first moved her that you can always tell when it’s about to rain, and if it will rain, if the chickens go into the barn. Chickens never get caught in the rain, he told me. I laughed, but have learned that this is true. Yesterday it got cloudy and dark and Maria and I wondered if it would rain, and I looked for the chickens. They were in the barn, and 20 minutes later, the skies opened up. Sometimes, the old farmers are right. Chickens never get caught in the rain (which, like the Ray Bradbury story, may never end.)
