The Adirondack Museum had a display of beautiful quilts, and I was struck by the warmth and diversity of this art form. The display guard remembered growing up in Indian Lake in the Adirondacks and sleeping upstairs with no heat and her mother making a quilt out of old clothing, much as Maria makes her quilts out of discarded things. It was a beautiful way to spend a couple of hours.
