Rose’s map

by Jon Katz

May 21, 2009 – Sunny, breezy, cool. Rose has a map in her head of the farm, and of where things should be. When we go out in the morning, or the afternoon, she rearranges things, especially where she likes the sheep to be. They are used to being shuttled around. Here, she moves them from the lower  pasture up to the pole barn where, for some reason, she wants them to be. I leave this up to Rose, who is very serious about it. Things have calmed down on the farm, and i no longer imagine Rose showing up on the porch with her briefcase, resigning to go to a saner farm. But I try and behave myself.
Working hard on the novel. It is draining. I miss my daughter Emma, who visited briefly. She loves Brooklyn, and can only handle the farm for a day or two.I love the farm, and can only handle Brooklyn for a day or two. But we love each other, which is good.
