April 25, 2009 – All this week, I’ve been posting photos of a New York State Dairy Farm – an award-winning farm of distinction – that is shutting down. Today, about a third of cows were taken away and I was there to photograph the process. I’ve been overwhelmed by e-mail about the farm and can’t begin to answer it all or acknowledge it, but I thank you for the good words.
It does say something about the country that banks get bailed out and family farms don’t. This family doesn’t want government or other help – they seem ready to pack it in. They did graciously permit me to hang around, which I did for much of today. I will post more photos tomorrow as I am bushed. The last cows will be leaving next Friday and I will be coming by daily.
