April 24, 2009 – Sunny, cool. Dairy Farm of Distinction No. 32 is nearing its last days. The heifers leave on Saturday morning, the others in a week or so. The farmer, 80, on the farm since 1968, is unable to watch and his family is taking care of the cows and the milking. The family does not want money or contributions. The farm, like many family farms, is the victim of a perverted economic systems that supports big companies and banks and crushes individuals, family farmers, artists and libraries.
So far, the farmer doesn’t want his photo taken, although he does want a photo of himself with Sable, his favorite cow, and his dog, Sweet. I’m not sure he’s up to it, but I’ll try.
