January 11, 2008 – Anybody dreaming of the perfect life on a farm with animals could get a quick cure this weekend. We got about 6-10 inches of snow, and bitter, sub-zero cold is coming behind it, though it is beautiful. All three of my dogs are sick, in various stages of vomiting, diarrhea and, in Lenore’s case, intestinal troubles and sore limbs from Lyme Disease. It looks like all three ate something quite unhealthy. It took a half hour just to sort out the pills this morning, and I won’t go into the other details of canine digestive issues, other than to say they were continuous and prodigious. No sleep last night and went through a quart of Odor Off. The laundry will be going all day.
The media is generally hysterical about everything, including the weather, but the predictions for the cold at the end of the week are disturbing, and we will have to take particular precautions about the weather, the sheep and the donkeys. The dogs will be resting, mostly inside, for several days and surely during the cold.
There is no place to put the snow, which is piled everywhere, and I know in real sub-zero weather everything stops working, from cars to waterers. Hang on.
